Avaya and Nokia unite to reduce phone bills

15 June 2005

Avaya and Nokia have teamed up to provide cheaper phone calls by utlising both cellular and wireless devices.

The converged solution will use a dual-mode device that can make and receive calls over cellular and wireless local area networks (W-LAN) using a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP).

Nokia's general manager of enterprise voice solutions, Jaako Olkkonen, said: "The Avaya application for Nokia devices will allow users to enjoy the convenience of one business number and one voice mailbox, and provide the ability to route mobile calls to enterprise IP networks, for better cost control and streamlined management."

The technology is currently on trial in Europe, and a wider rollout is scheduled for later in the summer.
