BT Fusion could reduce phone bills

16 June 2005

BT has launched its Fusion service that allows users to automatically switch between mobile and cheaper fixed-line services, which should mean cheaper phone bills.

BT Fusion is the company's attempt to slow the flow of home phone customers switching to mobile networks.

The innovative system switches from a mobile phone service to fixed line services through Bluetooth technology, whenever it is required by the user.

The head of BT Retail Ian Livingstone said: "Customers will be able to get the best of both world's in one service, combining the convenience and features of a mobile with fixed line prices and quality."

Users will be able to use the service to call UK landlines at the fixed line rate of 5.5p an hour off-peak, and three pence a minute at peak times.

The service has been developed with Vodafone.
