The value of Europe's telephony market is predicted to reach $4.4bn by 2008, according to new research by Datamonitor.
Growth will be strongly helped by Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) as users migrate towards the new technology, changing the face of the home telephone market.
Furthermore, if IP telephony vendors seize the opportunities ahead of them, then the VoIP market in western Europe alone could be worth $2.6bn by 2008.
Datamonitor said that service providers, VARs, system integrators and ISVs will be integral to the migration of users to VoIP.
Kathleen Klasnic, lead analyst of vertical market technology at Datamonitor, also said that adding value to services would be important for vendors.
Ms Klasnic said: "The channel will find opportunities arising from VoIP, such as tying VoIP into specific software applications for vertical markets."
The report contradicts ABI Research that only recently claimed VoIP services would fail to secure more new subscribers than conventional fixed-line and mobile services over the next five years.
