New home telephone technology released

6 September 2005

Telecoms hardware manufacturer Cicero has announced details of its new Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) CiceroPhone home telephone technology.

The new converged mobile softphone provides consumers with the possibility of cordless home telephone use for the reduced price of VoIP calls.

VoIP allows broadband users to make telephone calls over the internet.

Some comparisons with Skype's cordless service, which also uses broadband internet telephony, have found CiceroPhone to be superior.

The CiceroPhone cordless phone, which as a converged telephone also uses Wi-Fi technology, is likely to lessen the use of mobile networks.

Techworld, which tested the phone, said that phone quality was "good enough", and qualified that its overall rating of "adequate" was "a lot better than the quality we achieved using the mobile version of Skype".
