Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology is the future of the telephone, says a leading business publication.
September's issue of the Harvard Business Review says that VoIP will change business irrevocably over years to come.
Kevin Werbach, the founder of Supernova Group, a technology analysis and consulting firm, told the magazine: "VoIP is coming. The dividing line won't be between those who deploy it and those who do not, or even between early adopters and laggards.
"It will be between those who see VoIP as just a new way to do the same old things and those who use it to rethink their entire business."
VoIP, which allows users to make telephone calls over the internet, is very relevant to home workers, with recent research showed that the number of people working from home has doubled in the last eight years.
For both home telephone users and business users, VoIP makes eminent sense.
