Home phones are the fulcrum behind the most recent successes of Carphone Warehouse, according to figures released yesterday.
The firm added 69,000 customers to its TalkTalk fixed-line enterprise in the three months leading up to October – a rise of 63 per cent from the corresponding period of 2004.
Its mobile connections experienced a growth of 15.1 per cent, but the results suggest that the company is more of an all-rounder than it is given credit for in some quarters – it also offered various MP3 and broadband services.
Charles Dunstone, founder of the company, explained that results for the financial year to date had been ahead of projections.
He said: "Our customer bases all made good progress, underpinning the quality of our earnings. Overall, performance in the first half has been ahead of our expectations and we expect interim headline pre-tax profits to be up 35 per cent year-on-year."
Similarly strong results are predicted for TalkTalk over the next few months, with the company feeling the benefit of its new line rental product - launched two months ago.
Compare home telephone suppliers and save an average £170 a year.
