BT has announced a range of price cuts, including free calls over Christmas, as it seeks to dominate the broadband phone market.
Over the festive season, BT will be providing its broadband users with free calls to any home phone in 30 different countries.
It has also halved the prices of its Broadband Talk packages, which allow people to make broadband calls from their hone phones rather than their PCs.
According to BT Retail boss Ian Livingston: "We will make life simpler and better for our customers. Not only will we be offering them great value communications which enhance their life, but we will be able to offer individual customers the kinds of services which are tailored to their needs."
The changes to the packages will see BT charging £2 a month for evening and weekend calls and £7 a month for anytime calls.
Beyond the Christmas period, it has also announced plans to introduce an enhanced voice over internet service, which will be globally available and endowed with BT's new high definition sound quality, next spring.
Compare home telephone suppliers and save an average £170 a year.
