The Post Office says that its HomePhone product offers the lowest line rental on the high street.
Customers of the service pay a rental charge of £9.95 a month, which the company says is the cheapest of any of the major providers.
It is urging consumers to sign up to the service in the next two weeks to receive an extra £50 off their phone bill – a saving that it claims is the equivalent to five months worth of free line rental or four weeks worth of free calls.
Simon Carter of Post Office HomePhone, said: "With other major providers putting up their prices this really is the best time to think about switching your home phone provider.
"In the last couple of months over 200,000 people have switched to our service and we are currently signing up around 8,000 more customers every day."
Approximately 40% of households could save 20% or more with HomePhone, the company claims, compared to BT together Option 1.
Consumers receive an extra 10% off their ten favourite numbers, including one mobile, one international and one 0845 number.
The Post Office HomePhone product was launched at the start of 2005 and was the first alternative home phone provider to offer a single itemised bill for line rental and call charges.
