Plusnet latest to offer bundled deal

26 April 2006

Plusnet has become the latest company to offer a bundled home phone and broadband package in order to compete with new low-cost deals.

Its PlusTalk Anytime offers 240 inclusive minutes to UK landlines. It will also introduce a new Broadband Basic deal at the end of May, offering subscribers an 8Mb connection and 50MB of usage a month.

Together, the two deals will cost customers £20.99 a month.

The Carphone Warehouse sparked the price cuts, when it offered free national and selected free international calls together with a broadband connection for a total cost of £20.99 per month.

Plusnet argues that it has the edge over competitors as it can offer its deal to more than 99% of the UK population. Some companies are only able to offer a limited proportion of the population their deals, as they can only reach customers near to phone exchanges installed with their equipment.

"It's quickly becoming standard for broadband and telephone service to be bundled together, but a major barrier to take up has been poor nationwide coverage and off-putting long term contracts," said Neil Armstrong, PlusNet's managing director.

"The UK consumer can now get access to a great service with the comfort of a one month term."
