A US company is attempting to bridge the gap between home phone use and internet telephony by introducing a phone that can be used for both landline and internet calls.
The new phone from TelEvolution has a feature called GnomeLink, through which users will be able to connect to the service of the world's largest internet phone call company Skype.
Skype claims to have more than 100 million users across the world.
"GnomeLink is another step towards allowing people to make calls any way that they choose to," said David Beckemeyer, developer of GnomeLink and the rest of the company's range, called PhoneGnome.
"Our goal with the PhoneGnome product family has always been to bring all telephony worlds together - all on your regular home phone. With GnomeLink we've added the Skype community into the mix."
Continental Research predicts that a further two million people will give internet telephony a try this year.
