First Bluetooth home phone launched

26 May 2006

The UK's first home phone to feature Bluetooth wireless technology has been launched.

BT's Glide phone will give users instant access to new contacts by communicating with other devices, such as PDAs and mobile phones.

Bluetooth technology is a method of wireless information transfer. Two items with the technology are capable of detecting each other's presence when in close proximity, setting up a data transfer.

This means that when you walk through the door, any new contacts added to a mobile or PDA will be transferred to the contacts list on the BT Glide.

The home phone also has features usually associated with mobile handsets. It allows users to send text messages using a predictive text program and has a number of games on it.

As a cordless phone, it can be used inside or outside of the house and has an impressive range of up to 300 metres.

With all of the features, the BT Glide certainly seems aimed at the to end of the market, reflected in the price tag of £199.99.
