TalkTalk now serious contender

7 June 2006

The Carphone Warehouse's TalkTalk home phone and broadband internet offering has become a serious competitor to BT, according to uSwitch.com.

The price comparison and switching website said that TalkTalk had become the main competitor to BT, after the Carphone Warehouse announced that 40,000 people a week had signed up to its new product, which offers unlimited calls, unlimited international calls to over 20 countries and a broadband internet connection for £20.99 a month.

"They are now firmly established as the main competitor to BT in the fixed-line market," said Chris Williams, broadband product manager at uSwitch.com.

"There is no doubt that this offer signifies a dramatic change in how customers 'pay' for their broadband connection, and we will continue to see other suppliers in the communications industry using the promise of 'free broadband' as an aggressive marketing tactic to acquire new customers by bundling it with other services."

He added that similar offers could be on the horizon.

"We will continue to see other suppliers in the communications industry using the promise of 'free broadband' as an aggressive marketing tactic to acquire new customers by bundling it with other services," he said.
