BT today announced that all UK telephone customers would benefit from free evening and weekend calls for a year.
The BT free calls offer is available as a reward to loyal customers who sign up to an 18-month contract.
Customers simply pay line rental to access the deal and at the end of the one-year period will then pay £3.95 per month for unlimited evening and weekend calls.
BT believes the cash benefits for this deal are huge with BT customers making around 4.5 billion off-peak calls a year.
John Petter, BT Retail chief operating officer, said: "There's been a lot of talk about a price war in the past week and the winners will clearly be BT customers. There's no complicated bundles here or vague promise that something might be "free" if you sign up for other expensive services.
"Simply sign-up for 18 months to our option 2 package, pay the £11 line rental and we won't charge you for evening and weekend calls for a year. Why pay for 4.5 billion calls if you don't have to?"
