BT has highlighted the number of complaints for the telecoms industry this summer.
Among the new figures, BT has raised the issue of 44,000 complaints across the UK for mis-selling.
The research showed that London is the worst area for complaints about mis-selling with twice as many consumers in the capital falling victim compared to other regions.
In fact, over 20 per cent of the 44,000 mis-selling complaints received during June, July and August originated from London.
John Petter, BT Retail chief operating officer, said: "Some people will have returned home from their summer holiday to find two letters on the mat. One from a company they haven't heard of saying thanks for choosing them for telephone service and one from BT saying we're sorry to be losing you.
"They will have become one of the thousands of people each month to become victims of mis-selling."
