The Post Office is preparing to expand into the home phone telecom market with its forthcoming launch of a new range of tariffs and packages to suit all types of consumers.
The Post Office launched its telecommunication fixed line service last year, having left its former sister company BT, offering incentives such as money off its insurance services and cheaper line rental than BT in order to persuade consumers to join.
The HomePhone fixed line company, which runs its systems via Cable & Wireless wires, has also declared that it wants to ensnare a million customers by 2007; a tall order considering they currently only have 260,000 subscribers.
Ian Watt, an analyst at Enders Analysis, told the Sunday Times: "[HomePhone] has made good progress through shrewd marketing to its customers, but it is difficult to see where it goes from here".
There are also rumours of launching a broadband package in order to provide realistic competition for rival telecom companies like BSkyB, Carphone Warehouse and Orange, the newspaper reports.
