Telecommunications giant BT announced that over 37,000 new consumers have signed up to its tariffs after it slashed its prices at the end of last year.
In 1999, 90% of BT's revenue came from fixed-line phone calls but today landline tariffs account for 26%.
The surge in customers has helped BT to see its first rise in home phone services in four years, making up in part for the losses of around 100,000 customers a month prior to the cuts.
New Year's Eve saw BT cut the prices on its non-basic telephone packages by a third following the relaxations of telecoms regulations last summer, according to a report in the Western Mail.
The real challenge for BT will occur over the next few months when it will compete alongside companies offering bundled packages which see broadband, digital TV, a home phone line and in some cases, a mobile phone tariff, all combined in one easy-to-understand price.
