Despite the competitive deals available on home phones, many consumers are using their mobiles to make calls while in the house.
According to a survey by BT, 37% of consumers would refuse to give up their mobile phone, even if it meant saving money.
In comparison, 27% said they could not live without their landline telephone. BT points out that by using their mobiles instead of their homes phones, consumers could be paying over the odds for their calls.
Even calling other mobiles from landlines could be cheaper than using a pay-as-you-go mobile.
John Petter, Managing Director of BT's consumer division, said: "Amazingly around 40% of mobile calls are currently made in the home, just steps away from the cheaper landline option."
In August, FinancialAdvice.co.uk advised consumers to consider a bundled deal which includes home phone, broadband and digital TV, as they could get a much more competitive price than if they were to buy all three services separately.
