Brits 'love to keep in touch'

19 March 2009

People in the UK love to stay in touch with their loved ones, sometimes calling them several times a day, new research shows.

According to Saga Telephone Service, 79% of the population make around five calls a day to their loved ones, while one in ten people ring them between five and ten times.

"It's good to see that even today, with the constant development of new online technology, people still like to pick up the phone and have vocal contact with loved ones," says Andrew Goodsell, chief executive of Saga.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, women are the most likely to make family calls, with a quarter phoning their children or mother to catch up on the gossip.

Men, on the other hand, are keen to talk to their partners, the findings show, with over a third of those questioned admitting to this.

Earlier this week, T-Mobile announced it was to make calling home easier by introducing an enhanced Flext package for its customers.
