Customers are to have greater clarity over the use of 0870 numbers through new proposals by Ofcom.
The regulatory body is to ensure that providers stop charging higher prices to call the numbers, either from home phones or mobiles.
"Ofcom's advice is designed to ensure that UK consumers get the most out of their mobile phone and internet on the move when they go abroad without coming home to a high bill," a spokesperson for the organisation said.
The plans also intend to include 0870 numbers in call packages and to be charged on the same basis as geographic calls.
Furthermore, providers will be expected to outline to their customers how much they will be expected to pay for the calls.
The new regulations are set to come into effect on August 1st, with some companies already adopting the new measures.
