Voice over IP (VoIP) provider Vonage is calling on landline telephone users to slash their bills by going digital and using their broadband connection to make calls.
The company claims its cheapest package starts at £5.99 a month for unlimited calls to landlines anywhere in the UK, the Sun reports.
Vonage told the newspaper that all customers need is a high speed broadband connection and a regular telephone handset.
A Vonage box is connected via a cable to their handset and their computer router and phone signals are converted to digital ones which can be transmitted via broadband.
Customers requiring a BT line for their internet will still have to pay line rental, but those who do not will only have to pay for their calls through Vonage.
The company said its services could be particularly attractive to people working from home who use their landline frequently.
"At a time when people are struggling with sky high bills, this seems a way of making real savings," said Managing Director Vincent Potier.
Vonage has 2.5 million subscriber lines and its services are available to customers in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
