1 in 4 holidaymakers 'forget about travel insurance'
Worryingly, it is estimated that around £1.61 billion of this will be completely uninsured, with only three-quarters of people having travel insurance.
Commenting on the findings, Axa Home Insurance's Amanda Edwards explained that personal possessions travel insurance is increasingly important for holidaymakers these days.
She added: "While baggage cover is useful for flip-flops and t-shirts, it was never really designed for the high value electronic kit we carry these days.
"We suggest that people use this holiday period as a prompt to consider very carefully what cover they need not just for their holiday but throughout the year."
Holidaymakers may be able to save money by shopping around for the right deal to suit their needs.
Consumers may also be able to save more money by selecting their holiday destination carefully, the Post Office claimed last week.
