Insurers footing the bill for harsh winter
Following the coldest winter in 30 years, insurers have been forced to pay out £650 million to repair various problems, new figures show.

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) revealed that 335,000 claims for a variety of incidents have been handled over the last few months.

These include damage to homes, cars and businesses, which have arisen as a result of freezing conditions and heavy snowfall.

Car insurance claims amounted to £395 million, with many of them due to accidental damage from slippery roads.

Meanwhile, £255 million was paid out in business and home insurance claims.

Nick Starling, ABI Director of General Insurance and Health, commented: "Insurers will always respond quickly to the large number of claims that often result from bad weather."

Recently, the Motor Insurers' Bureau found that fronting fraud is becoming a growing problem in the UK, as people look to reduce car insurance costs.
