Pregnant women 'must wear seatbelts correctly'
This underlines the potential costs faced by motorists in addition to car insurance in the case of an accident.
It follows a warning by RoadSafe, which suggested that a large number of drivers are still flouting the seatbelt laws by failing to wear one.
The charity called on employers and drivers to ensure that they always wear a seatbelt when behind the wheel.
Chief Examiner at the IAM Peter Rodger explained: "It seems obvious, but we do urge pregnant women to keep wearing their seatbelts while driving.
"A lot of women don't like the way belts feel and, without realising the danger, let the shoulder strap or the lap belt ride up into the middle of the abdomen."
