Pricey sports equipment vulnerable to theft
Many are left in car boots and gardens, the specialist insurer said, meaning they are in full view of thieves.
Austyn Tusler, Home Insurance Expert at Hiscox, commented: "It's easy for homeowners to focus on new equipment and items they use more regularly, overlooking what might be stored at the back of the shed."
He added that seasonal items such as skis and watersports equipment can also be left unattended for long periods of time, so it is crucial to ensure they are covered by contents policies.
Parents were recently advised to ensure their home insurance is up to date as students up and down the country planned parties to celebrate their exam results.
