Travel insurance 'a necessity' on winter sports holidays
The company advised holidaymakers to read the small print of any policy carefully before making a purchase.
Mike Pickard, Head of Travel Insurance at esure, said: "If in doubt, call your insurer or consider leaving it to the professionals rather than risk facing a hefty medical bill if you were injured."
He suggested that the Winter Olympics are likely to encourage people to try out a new sport.
Many people who took domestic holidays in 2009 are set to abandon the UK this year, simonseeks.com recently found.
More than half (56%) of those surveyed are to turn their backs on staycations in 2010.
