<div class="rxbodyfield" xmlns:o="urn:www.microsoft.com/office" xmlns:st1="urn:www.microsoft.com/smarttags" xmlns:st2="urn:www.microsoft.com/smarttags2" xmlns:w="urn:www.microsoft.com/word" xmlns:x="urn:www.microsoft.com/excel"><p>Telecoms giant BT is campaigning to return to the top of the mobile phone market by offering its customers the chance to lower their mobile phone costs by using Wi-Fi connections for everyday calls.</p><p>The technology has previously been used by businesses and from today, British consumers will be able to take advantage of the potentially money-saving package via their mobile phone.</p><p>As part of its BT Fusion project, the Wi-Fi compatible handset will allow subscribers to make internet calls outside the home for the first time by taking advantage of BT&#39;s 2,000 Wi-Fi hotspots located at airports, railway stations, hotels and other leisure sites.</p><p>By March, BT hopes to have installed the relevant technology in 12 city centres, including Leeds, Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Liverpool and London&#39;s Westminster area, to allow for an even broader internet coverage.</p><p>BT&#39;s mobility and convergence chief, Steve Andrews, predicted &quot;a mass market adoption of BT fusion over the next twelve months&quot; in an interview in the Sunday Telegraph.</p><p>&quot;Over 60% of mobile calls are made indoors &#8211; at home, in the office, at railways stations and airports.
