<div class="rxbodyfield" xmlns:o="urn:www.microsoft.com/office" xmlns:st1="urn:www.microsoft.com/smarttags" xmlns:st2="urn:www.microsoft.com/smarttags2" xmlns:w="urn:www.microsoft.com/word" xmlns:x="urn:www.microsoft.com/excel"><p>Many consumers will have been lucky enough to receive a new mobile phone for Christmas this year, but with experts estimating that each household contains at least two defunct, older models, questions are being asked about how best to deal with them.</p><p>Recycling has become a popular resolution this year with the nation&#39;s consumers becoming more environmentally focussed than ever before and now there is a company willing to pay the public for handing in their old mobile phones, in order to effectively recycle them.</p><p>Envirofone.com offers consumers &#39;enviropoints&#39; which can be converted to either cash or credit with Argos in exchange for their old mobiles and has already paid out over &#163;1 million to consumers, according to Materials Recycling Week magazine.</p><p>The company pays for the postage of your unwanted items and will send you a cheque for the value of your phone or provide you with an e-card to spend online at Argos. </p><p>With no limits as to how many phones consumers can send in, it could provide some much-needed extra cash for the January sales.</p><p>Chief executive Pete Petrondas told Materials Recycling Week: &quot;A mobile phone is generally replaced every 12 months which means high e-waste. Fewer than four million are recycled each year in the UK which is less than a quarter of the total number of phones upgraded. </p><p>For those feeling more charitable, Fonebak, another company calling for consumers&#39; old mobile phones, has recently promised to donate &#163;5 to charity for each mobile phone that it receives.</p><p>Charities which will benefit from Fonebak&#39;s scheme include Children in Need, Help the Aged, the National Schools Partnership, Royal National Lifeboat Institution, and WaterAid.</p><p>For a great deal on your mobile phone, uSwitch.com can help.
