<div class="rxbodyfield" xmlns:o="urn:www.microsoft.com/office" xmlns:st1="urn:www.microsoft.com/smarttags" xmlns:st2="urn:www.microsoft.com/smarttags2" xmlns:w="urn:www.microsoft.com/word" xmlns:x="urn:www.microsoft.com/excel"><p>Mobile banking will help &quot;customers to manage their finances better&quot;</p><p>Mobile phones have already replaced the humble diary, calculator and watch from many consumers&#39; lives and now they may eradicate the need for visiting the bank, with Alliance &amp; Leicester announcing the launch of its new mobile banking system.</p><p>According to the bank, consumers will initially be able to access mini statements and balance enquiries, although it is hoped that further services will be added soon.</p><p>Security fears have also been allayed as the bank assures customers that no information can be stored on the handset and that a personal passcode will be required for access to account details.</p><p>Alliance &amp; Leicester join HSBC&#39;s online arm First Direct and Mint in their ventures into the mobile phone market, with First Direct announcing a mobile banking service earlier this year and Mint currently offering its customers credit card payments via handsets.</p><p>Ian Tandy, director of ecommerce at Alliance &amp; Leicester, felt confident that their customers would welcome the new technology. He stated: &quot;The mobile phone is already a central tool in people&#39;s everyday lives &#8211; we increasingly lead digital lifestyles with mobiles acting as the hub. </p><p>&quot;Accessing banking details via a mobile phone is the next natural step and one we think our current account customers will embrace.&quot;</p><p>Alastair Lukies, chief executive of security network firm MONILINK, which will aid Alliance &amp; Leicester with its mobile banking service, added: &quot;With electronic payments now the norm, MONILINK will ultimately help Alliance &amp; Leicester customers to manage their finances better.&quot;</p><p>For a great deal on your mobile phone, uSwitch.com can help.
