<div class="rxbodyfield" xmlns:o="urn:www.microsoft.com/office" xmlns:st1="urn:www.microsoft.com/smarttags" xmlns:st2="urn:www.microsoft.com/smarttags2" xmlns:w="urn:www.microsoft.com/word" xmlns:x="urn:www.microsoft.com/excel"><p>With the news that a third of all new phone purchases are made in the run-up to Christmas, the National Autistic Society (NAS) has teamed up with Vodafone to encourage consumers to send in their old mobile phones to help raise money.</p><p>The funds will go towards supporting the estimated two million individuals, families and carers affected by autism in the UK today.</p><p>Each recycled mobile phone will raise &#163;7 for the NAS which will help towards paying for arts and craft materials or specialist play equipment for children with autism at a NAS school or play scheme.</p><p>The funds will also help to pay for the charity&#39;s helpline, set up to ease anxious carers and those with autism, as well as providing gardening equipment for a sensory garden, which helps to create a home away from home and a stimulating outdoors environment for adults with autism.</p><p>TV presenter and consumer reporter Alice Beer has thrown her weight behind the campaign and commented: &quot;Every handset donated to Vodafone UK stores raises around &#163;7 for the NAS.
