Vodafone admit over-charging

<div class="rxbodyfield" xmlns:o="urn:www.microsoft.com/office" xmlns:st1="urn:www.microsoft.com/smarttags" xmlns:st2="urn:www.microsoft.com/smarttags2" xmlns:w="urn:www.microsoft.com/word" xmlns:x="urn:www.microsoft.com/excel"><p>Mobile communications provider Vodafone has admitted that it has been overcharging its Pay-as-you-talk customers for texting premium rate numbers, according to the Metro newspaper.</p><p>Consumers using their pay-as-you-go mobiles to text in to television shows like ITV&#39;s X Factor and I&#39;m a Celebrity...get me out of here! have been billed an additional 12p.</p><p>Customers are usually charged 12p for the delivery of the message and then the premium rate charge, but Vodafone has been adding a further 12p onto the total. </p><p>It is estimated that Vodafone could have made up to &#163;360,000 a week through over-charging, if the problem had affected all its premium rate SMS texts.</p><p>Vodafone was made aware of its mistake after a customer complained about the unexpected price rise.</p><p>Andrew Bud, vice-chair of the Mobile Entertainment Forum, told the Metro: &quot;In other networks in other parts of the world mistakes like this occur from time to time due the technical complexity of systems required. </p><p>&quot;Operators do make a significant amount from SMS but I don&#39;t believe the operators over-charge for what they do because it is quite an expensive service to operate. </p><p>&quot;In general consumers who have been over charged should always be entitled to a refund in some form,&quot; he concluded.</p><p>An official spokesman for Vodafone told the paper that they weren&#39;t sure how many people had been affected but that the matter was being &quot;investigated&quot;.
