Choice of handset reveals personality traits

2 April 2007

An Australian research group has claimed that a consumer's handset choice can reveal tell-tale signs about their personality.

Associate Director of Nielsen Media Research Mr Jody Loughlin said that each handset revealed aspects of its owner's lifestyle, with Motorola's proving to be the choice of those under 24-years-old, Nokia's belonging to family-orientated middle-manager types and LG's being a firm favourite of fashion-conscious mums.

Samsungs meanwhile were seen to belong to career-driven young women who are fun-seeking and success driven. Sony Ericssons are believed to be the first choice of "young, ambitious man trying to make his mark".

Speaking to the Sydney Herald, Mr Loughlin added that the choice of handset often said more about a person's social status than who their mobile operator was.

Dane Maddams, 21, from the Sydney-based software education group Concord, also told the newspaper: "In this day and age what you wear defines who you are and mobile phones are an accessory of fashion."
