How do you carry your mobile?

8 May 2007

Research gathered by Nokia over the past four years has revealed that the front right-hand pocket is the most popular place for consumers to keep their mobile phone.

Over 1,500 people were interviewed from across the world by Nokia in its quest to discover where people store their phones when they are not in use. The first batch of results has been published by JanChipchase.com.

Six in ten of the men were found to keep their phone in their front right pocket, while 61% of women kept theirs in their handbag, despite the fact that half of them regularly missed incoming calls because they couldn't get to their handset in time.

Keeping the mobile in your front pocket was however, no guarantee that you would be able to answer the call all the time, with 30% of "pocket-carriers" admitting to missing phone calls regularly.

The use of phone straps, particularly those that were decorated with jewels, was restricted to the Asian areas of the globe; according to Nokia: "Collectivist societies such as China, South Korea and Japan value straps as a platform for facilitating social associations and impression management."

Nokia also recognised the fact that many women attached beads and jewels to their mobile phone's strap to make it easier to find in a cluttered handbag.
