Net-addict Brits use mobile to satisfy cravings

29 May 2007

Britain's mobile phone users have become so dependent on the internet for everyday life that they are using their mobiles to access the web in a variety of unusual places.

Being without a computer is no longer an obstacle to gaining internet access thanks to the advent of mobile internet and according to T-Mobile, 10% of people take advantage of that fact while they are in the toilet.

Other places for using their mobile for the internet included while on public transport, favoured by 48% of respondents, while watching TV, liked by 46% and a third of mobile users surf the net while in bed.

In addition, 14% have walked out on a date after 'googling' their potential partner via their mobile and deciding that their 'net rep' isn't good enough for them.

Richard Warmsley, Head of Internet on the Move at T-Mobile, said: "T-Mobile's mobile web research shows that the variety of sites surfed, is as diverse and unique as the people using it. People are now using the Internet for everything were used to on our PCs.

He continued: "People are Googling something they spot in a magazine on the way to work or taking a sneak at their Hotmail in their lunch hour, the best thing about web'n'walk is that is brings the whole internet to your mobile, wherever you are, for a simple fixed cost."
