Throwing down the overseas roaming charges gauntlet, new mobile phone provider CallBlue has pledged to shave at least one third off foreign mobile call bills when it launches next month.
Using a special SIM card, users will be able to enjoy cheaper overseas rates and a number of extra features, including a "social networking-style service", where consumers can recommend their opinion on everything from the best law firms to the most fun bars in various countries.
Les Green, Chairman of CallBlue, told the Times that the provider had the edge over its competitors because its sole aim was to beat them all on roaming prices.
Though the scheme will initially be used primarily for business customers, the inspiration for it came from the CallBlue board member's personal experiences of being stung for call charges abroad - hinting that it could give birth to a consumer version soon.
This is the latest in a line of cost-saving gestures to be offered by mobile phone operators after a cap on all inter-EU calls was announced earlier this month.
The good news for consumers is that this move will lead to rival phone companies lowering their charges in order to entice new customers, making it cheaper than ever before to call home from abroad.
