Mobile phone operator O2 is set to gain the much-sought after deal to sell Apple's iPhone, it has been reported.
According to press reports, O2 is set to become the first mobile operator to sell the highly-prized new gadget in the UK.
O2 is yet to confirm whether these reports are correct, but if the deal goes through, the phone is expected to be on sale in the UK by Christmas.
The reports are sure to excite current O2 customers as well as those from other networks, eager to get their hands on the latest communication technology featuring a nine centimetre touch-sensitive screen, Wi-Fi capabilities, camera and web browser.
Vodafone, thought to be the main contenders for the contract, currently hold the market share of mobile customers in Europe, but this latest development is sure to be a concern as many customers are expected to change provider to own a coveted iPhone.
Over 500,000 iPhones were sold in the US last weekend after the product was launched on Friday.
