Profits up for Sony Ericsson

13 July 2007

Mobile phone manufacturer Sony Ericsson has reported a 54% increase in profits over the course of the last three months.

Yearly figures show the fourth-largest mobile phone firm had witnessed a growth of 59 per cent since 2006.

Sales of Sony Ericsson's Walkman phone have been cited as the main factor behind the firm's prominence in the music phone market - with nine million Sony Ericsson Walkman phones sold since April.

The news comes as Motorola predicted a fall in its profits for the same period earlier this week.

"Sony Ericsson has continued to capture market share in a more competitive market place with a product offering that addresses a wider consumer audience than ever before," the company's President Miles Flint explained.

"Our financial results for quarter two 2007 reflect our direction to build our brand in key imaging, music and multimedia categories with a portfolio that includes more competitively priced phones."

However, the company also revealed that the 149 million profit made in this last quarter is behind on the figures seen in 2004/5 and 2005/6.
