Mobile phone firm Alcatel has refused to follow the technological advances of rival phone companies and has gone back to basics with a new mobile costing just £15.
Compared to the latest mobiles currently hitting the market such as the much sought-after iPhone, Alcatel's OT-E201 model is comparatively simple with a 65K colour screen size of 96mm by 76mm and the phone operates over GSM 900 and 1800 bandwidths.
Although the handset does not have a camera or 3G capabilities, it holds 250 contacts and another 250 hours of standby time, uses polyphonic ring tones and comes with a free hands-free kit included.
Available only in black, the phone, weighing just 69 grams also has five hours of talk time, featuring two games and a calculator.
The phone is sure to be a hit with mobile users who want an unfussy phone for occasional use.
The OT-E201, available on the Orange network, is also environmentally friendly, being the first Alcatel handset to use a smaller packaging design to save on the amount of waste.
The launch of Alcatel's new budget phone coincides with the news that Nokia has shipped over one million units of the 6300 handset across to the UK to rival its top selling phone, the N95.
Nokia is reportedly planning to open a new flagship store on Regent Street in time for Christmas in the style of the existing Apple shop on the road to showcase its entire brand.
