O2 has signed a deal allowing its customers to watch some of their favourite BBC shows via their mobile phones.
The tie-up with BBC Worldwide means that customers of the mobile phone operator will be able to watch video clips on their handsets including Doctor Who, I'm Alan Partridge and the League of Gentleman.
Users will also be able to download wallpapers and ringtones as part of around 300 pieces of media content, with this number expected to increase in the near future, BBC officials have revealed.
Clips released by the corporation's commercial arm will be available for download through the O2 Active mobile portal.
"O2 is the largest UK operator by subscriber numbers so this is clearly a great deal for us in terms of getting our content in front of consumers and demonstrating to our in-house and indie production partners how BBC Worldwide continues to innovate in the digital media sector," Peter Mercier, Head of Mobile at BBC Worldwide said.
BBC Worldwide has "access to some of the best known and most loved TV brands", he added.
