Wireless music downloads celebrated

11 September 2007

Vodafone has celebrated the launch of a wireless 'all you can eat' music download service set to hit its mobile phones in the near future.

The new service will allow customers unlimited access to over one million downloadable tracks, for £1.99 per week.

Speaking to BBC News 24, Chief Marketing Officer for Vodafone UK, Tim Yates explained that the launch of the new scheme was in response to changes in the way people are using their mobile phones.

"The interesting thing that Vodafone customers are telling us is that there are a number of ways that they want to consume music while they are out and about," he said.

"Yes indeed some want to own their music, but other people are more experimental in their tastes and like to have a broad range of tracks that they can access."

Responding to criticism over the price of the service, Mr Yates added: "Customers are telling us that's not a lot to pay for the amount of tracks that are available to them. It means that they can experiment, they can access different types of music."

He concluded: "It's a unique service, it's not available to anybody else in the UK and we think that's very important."
