Apple's long-awaited iPhone will finally hit shops in the UK today, three months after the sought-after gadget was launched in the US.
The handset, which combines mobile technology with a touch screen and the capabilities of an iPod, allows users to access the internet to download music, play TV shows and films, and check emails as well as make calls and send text messages.
The iPhone, which represents the first attempt by Apple to venture into the mobile phone world in Europe, will be available on O2 networks at Carphone Warehouse shops in the UK for around £269.
However there has been some speculation whether O2 had paid too much for the rights to the iPhone. It is rumoured O2 would be giving up to 40% of revenue to Apple from use of the iPhone and an agreed margin of the retail price.
Recently, Apple was forced to issue an apology, as well as a refund, to customers who purchased the iPhone in the US at its initial price of $599, after the firm decided to cut prices to around $399. The iPhone sold more than one million handsets in the first two months after it went on sale in the US.
