Mobile phones giant Motorola have officially unveiled new handsets to be sold in the UK.
All seven new devices are in the W-series range, which cater for less gadget-oriented customers who use their mobiles for personal rather than business use.
Incorporating mp3 ringtones and a 500-entry phonebook in the case of the new W203/213 devices, the US firm says that the new phones will be thinner and will have markedly improved battery life.
Unveiling upgrades to the W-series follows Motorola's launch of its RAZR2 - successor to its original RAZR, currently the world's best-selling phone - in May this year.
Furthermore, a special edition of the RAZR2 - set in 18 karat gold and gold plate - has also been announced by Motorola.
Despite the many new products which it has unveiled so far in 2007, the Reuters news agency reported yesterday that American 'activist investor' Carl Icahn might launch a bid against the mobile phone firm for what he perceives as its poor financial performance.
Mr Icahn, who tried and failed to win a seat on the company's board earlier this year, said: "There is value there, and if that value doesn't manifest itself I, as an activist, would think very seriously about coming back."
