Orange announces Setanta deal

19 December 2007

French telecoms firm Orange has signed a deal with broadcasters Setanta, which will see football fans able to watch televised Premiership games on their mobile phones.

Under the terms of the agreement, Orange users will pay a £5 per month subscription fee - allowing them to access the pay-TV firm's three sports channels.

The Setanta hook-up follows a similar sports channel deal that the mobile phone firm have already signed with Sky.

Head of Sports Partnerships at Orange, Steve Wallage, commented: "The addition of the Setanta Sports package to our existing football portfolio was essential to ensure our customers don't miss any of this season's action - we're now the true home for 'football on your mobile'.

Setanta Sports Marketing Manager, Timothy Ryan, added: "No serious football fan would risk missing his team's progress this season and the deal with Orange means that need never happen."

The broadcaster - which retains over one million TV subscribers in the UK - bought the rights to televise live some 46 Premiership games per year from the beginning of the current season.

The remaining 92 matches are broadcast by Sky.
