Email messages sent to computers will be accessible from O2 mobile phones, the firm has announced.
Moreover, the new network services will see O2 customers able to synchronise other features from their home computers - such as diaries and contacts lists.
The technology for the email service from the mobile phone firm uses technology from messaging software specialists Critical Path.
However, the automatic synchronisation is only to be made available to those O2 customers whose broadband service is provided by the firm, too.
Broadband Online Manager at O2 Nick Hill commented: "The mobile email and synchronisation features are just some of the first steps we're taking to bringing mobile and fixed-line communications services together for our subscribers.
"Our aim is to provide seamlessly integrated experiences across mobile and web."
Recent research by data firm Vanson Bourne shows that over half (54%) of mobile phone users in Britain spend "hours" updating their phones with their contact names and numbers.
Using a synchronisation service makes this process automatic.
O2's broadband services were launched in the UK in September, following several delays.
