Investment 'can improve mobile bundles'

4 March 2008

Investment has been made by T-Mobile Venture Fund into Ubiquisys, the femtocell leader, something that could lead to improved mobile bundles, it said.

Femtocells can enhance coverage gained by mobile users in the home, T-Mobile noted, because 3G coverage is improved, which in turn can lead to bundled services due to a differentiation between services.

Axel Kolb, Fund Manager at T-Mobile Venture Fund, claimed that femtocells are the "future of mobile" and that charges can be lowered via the deployment of them.

"They solve the coverage dilemma whilst lowering costs for operators and consumers alike. They pave the way for new mobile services that put the mobile phone at the centre of the connected home," he commented.

Improved bundles and broadband services can ultimately be given to customers, which is why the deal is a good one, he added.

T-Mobile Venture Fund says that it exists in order to cooperate with other organisations in the mobile sector.
