Proposals by the mobile telecomms company O2 to construct a mast have been scrapped because of safety fears.
After a petition was signed by a number of local people in Sussex, the mast will now not be erected by a local school, reports the Rye & Battle Observer.
O2 stated that it is not likely another application will be made, but another local area could be targeted for such purposes.
Headteacher at Ilford and Kingston Primary School Stephen Elliot noted that the community has worked together to stop the possibility of the mast being put in place.
"I'm glad they've taken this decision because the plan was so unpopular with the community and the school," he told the publication.
The mobile firm remarked that it is looking to improve the area's reception.
A councillor in Bootle, Merseyside, Mark Dowd, recently expressed concern at the number of telephone masts being placed in the area, reports the Bootle Times.
