Improved call coverage may become possible on journeys after Virgin Trains and Vodafone UK announced a new deal.
Under the terms of the agreement, new 2G and 3G technology is to be fitted on 52 Pendolino trains that Virgin operates.
However, Vodafone warned business users of mobiles that they should not discuss personal matters out loud on their mobiles, such as sales leads.
Director of Enterprise at Vodafone UK warned travellers to think about other options when communicating in public.
"Vodafone provides customers with access to many forms of communication on the move, allowing business people, when necessary, to switch to more discrete methods such as text or mobile email," he commented.
More than 50% of the people surveyed by the firm said that they do not opt to use other methods when using their phones on a train.
Recent research from YouGov found that a high number of Brits never turn their handsets off.
