Motorola has confirmed that handset sales have fallen during the first three months of 2008.
According to the firm, these transactions fell by 39% in the opening quarter, while a $194 million (£98 million) loss was also witnessed.
On top of this, the mobile handset section of the business also dropped by $418 million over the same period, it said, 80% higher than corresponding statistics for 2007.
In response, analyst at RBC Mark Sue noted that the trends are typical of the direction the market has been heading in this year.
"Things seem to be bottoming in the beleaguered handset division ... but it's going to take several more quarters to right the ship at Motorola," he commented.
At the other end of the scale, Nokia has recently stated that its handset sales have been rising over recent times. In total, worldwide sales have been boosted by 27%, the manufacturer said.
