A number of mobile telephone services are set to be put under the microscope by regulator PhonepayPlus.
It will evaluate whether premium-rate services including downloading, games and ringtones are too expensive for consumers.
Such a move, it stated, comes after a high number of customer complaints that have been received in the opening three months of the year.
Chief Executive at PhonepayPlus George Kidd asserted that there are regulations that must be adhered to by phone companies and it is crucial they take note.
"There are clear rules when it comes to the promotion, content and delivery of mobile phone paid services," he commented.
He added that those who do not follow such paths are likely to be hit by stringent punishments.
And it also wishes that service providers operate by transparent means and display all pricing in an accurate manner.
PhonepayPlus has laid out a code of practice for operators. The regulator was previously known as Icstis.
