Mobiles 'a vital object'

16 May 2008

A survey from IDC and Nortel has found that a high number of consumers rate their mobile telephone more importantly than keys and wallets.

The organisation asked a sample of people what item they would take with them if they were away from their homes for a day, reports Reuters.

Of those polled, 38% claimed that their mobiles would be on top of the list, while 30% opted for their wallet.

Moreover, the study also attempted to consider the number of workers who can be termed as being "hyperconnected" - those who have a minimum of seven devices that they can use either in their spare time or at work.

Currently, this figure stands at 16% but could grow to 40% in the next five years, Nortel and IDC found.

People who are "increasingly" connected made up 36% of respondents, the firm added.

This week it was revealed that mobile users can gain repeat prescriptions over their mobile telephones after a service was opened up by DigiTV.
