Those using mobile telephones could have to begin to face charges for taking calls, the telecomms commissioner of the European Union has suggested.
Viviane Reding suggested that rules in the mobile market ought to evolve and that existing regulations must not be in place forever, reports Reuters.
The European Commission has in recent times been looking at ways in which texting charges could be capped or lowered abroad.
And Ms Reding told the Financial Times that something needs to change if the market is to progress in the future.
"Why not? The whole market is developing so we should not stay on the rules that have been in place ten years," she stated in relation to possible charges.
Fresh regulations are due to be published by the politician later on the month looking at termination rates across the European Union.
In other mobile news, Carphone Warehouse customers were recently informed that they would receive a free laptop with certain broadband deals.
